⭐️ Why You Need to Make This Recipe
- Soft & Fluffy - This cake has a great texture. It's moist and tender, yet fluffy.
- Flavorful - Between the banana, chocolate, and cinnamon flavors, this cake is so yummy!
- Easy to Make - With common ingredients and easy steps, this cake recipe is great for home bakers of any skill level.
🧈 Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make this chocolate chip cinnamon banana cake.
- Salted Butter - This recipe was tested with salted butter but you could use unsalted butter instead with an additional ¼ teaspoon of salt added to the recipe. The butter needs to be softened to room temperature to cream with the sugar.
- Mashed Banana - You will need 1 cup of very ripe mashed banana measured out. This is approximately 2 average to large-sized bananas.
- Sour Cream - In a pinch, you could use plain yogurt instead of sour cream.
- Chocolate Chips - Semisweet chocolate chips are great for this cake but you could use milk chocolate or dark chocolate instead.
- Cinnamon - Just ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon makes for a wonderful combination of banana, chocolate, and cinnamon.
See the recipe card for the full list of ingredients with measurements.
📃 Instructions
Step 1: Cream together the softened butter and white sugar for 1 minute. Add the mashed banana, sour cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
Step 2: Mix until combined. The mixture might be slightly grainy but that is okay, it will smooth out later.
Step 3: Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt separately.
Step 4: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix on low speed just until the batter comes together. Do not overmix!
Step 5: Stir together the chocolate chips, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
Step 6: Pour half of the batter into a pan that has been greased and lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle half of the chocolate chip mixture over the batter before topping with the other half of the batter, gently spreading and smoothing out the top.
Step 7: Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chip mixture on top of the cake.
Step 8: Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before serving or transferring out of the pan.
💡 Top Tip
Be super careful not to overmix the batter! Overmixing cake batter makes the cake tough instead of tender. It can also cause an unpleasant layer to form near the bottom of the cake.
