🧈 Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make this easy banana peanut butter cake.
Ingredient Notes
- Salted Butter - This cake is made with butter which makes it more flavorful and moist. I use salted butter in most of my recipes but you could make this recipe with unsalted butter. See the notes in the recipe card for instructions on substituting unsalted butter.
- Mashed Bananas - The more ripe, the better! Be sure to mash the bananas and measure to ensure accuracy before adding to the recipe.
- Peanut Butter - I have only tested this frosting recipe with Kraft brand creamy-style peanut butter so I'm not sure how it would work using natural-style peanut butter.
See the recipe card for the full list of ingredients with measurements.
📃 Instructions
Step 1: Cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until incorporated. Add the eggs and vanilla and continue mixing until fluffy.
Step 2: Add the mashed bananas and milk and continue mixing on medium speed until incorporated.
Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step 4: Add the dry ingredients to the combined wet ingredients and mix at low speed just until no streaks of flour remain.
Step 5: Pour the cake batter into a baking pan that has been greased or lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool fully before topping with the frosting.
Step 6: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and peanut butter on high until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and mix on low until incorporated. Add the milk and increase the speed to high until fluffy and smooth.
Gently spread the frosting over the fully-cooled cake. Slice into pieces and serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Wow, this is delicious! I made 1 1/2x the frosting recipe because I like PB so much, and we all loved it! The cake is moist and not too sweet - a great balance to the frosting.
