This is my recipe for tender yet fluffy Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins that are easy to make and full of mashed banana and chocolate chips! Save this one for when you have ripe bananas on the counter!

Everyone needs a recipe for classic banana muffins in their recipe collection. While I have recipes for other flavors of banana muffins such as these gingerbread banana muffins or my Nutella-filled banana muffins, I realized I don't have a recipe for regular banana muffins with chocolate chips. Sometimes simple is best and I think that is exactly the case here!
If you have lots of ripe bananas to use up, I would also recommend trying Banana Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting or Coconut Pineapple Banana Muffins!

⭐️ Why You Need to Make This Recipe
- Texture - Moist and tender from lots of mashed ripe bananas and sour cream with lots of melty chocolate chips throughout.
- Flavor - Sweet banana flavor in a buttery muffin with the deep flavor of semisweet chocolate to contrast beautifully!
- Method - Like my Banana Coffee Cake Muffins, this muffin recipe starts by creaming together softened butter and sugar followed by the other ingredients for a little extra fluffiness and lift.
🧈 Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make these classic banana muffins with chocolate chips.

Ingredient Notes
- Butter - Make sure the butter is nicely softened to room temperature - not melted and not hard! This recipe does call for salted butter but you could use unsalted butter with an additional ¼ teaspoon of salt added to the dry ingredients.
- Bananas - Of course! 😉 Make sure the bananas are super ripe - the more black spots, the better!
- Sour Cream - You could use plain yogurt instead of sour cream.
- Chocolate Chips - I love using regular semisweet chocolate chips for this recipe but you could use mini chocolate chips, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate instead!

📃 Instructions

Step 1: Cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar for 1 minute. Add the eggs, vanilla, mashed banana, and sour cream.

Step 2: Mix until fully incorporated - the mixture may look a little separated but this is okay.

Step 3: Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and chocolate chips.

Step 4: Mix at low speed just until no streaks of flour remain.

Step 5: Fill each muffin in a prepared muffin tin ¾ full with batter. Top with additional chocolate chips, if desired.

Step 6: Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.

In the midst of my very busy day, I decided that it was a good idea to make muffins on top of everything else. thankfully that wasn’t an issue as Naomi‘s chocolate banana muffins come together so quickly and are done around 40 minutes. These muffins are moist, delicious and use up the sad bananas that have been sitting in my freezer for longer than I would like to admit.
