🧈 Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make this marbled chocolate banana bread.

Ingredient Notes
- Bananas - The riper the better for banana bread! You will need 2 cups of mashed bananas which is about 4 bananas worth.
- Oil - Any neutral-flavored liquid cooking oil, such as avocado oil, olive oil, or vegetable oil.
- Cocoa Powder - For a deep smooth chocolate flavor, I recommend using Dutch-processed cocoa powder.
- Chocolate Chips - I use semisweet chocolate chips but you could use any kind of chocolate you prefer!

📃 Instructions

Step 1: Whisk together the oil, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, and mashed banana until smooth.

Step 2: Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3: Add the combined dry ingredients and chocolate chips to the bowl of wet ingredients and mix just until incorporated. Do not overmix!

Step 4: Transfer about 1 ½ cups of the batter to a separate bowl and stir in the cocoa powder just until combined.

Step 5: Layer scoops of the batter into a prepared loaf pan. Finish by swirling a knife through a few times to create a marbled look.

Step 6: Bake in a preheated oven for 60-70 minutes or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling before slicing.
💡 Top Tips
It is super important to not overmix the batter when making banana bread! A good rule of thumb is to mix just until no streaks of flour remain, then stop mixing and pour the batter into the pan. Overmixing may result in a tough loaf or even cause a gummy layer of glutenous batter to settle to the bottom of the loaf.
Baking time for this recipe and others usually depends on a few factors. Everyone's oven is different, so your banana bread may take a shorter or longer time than what I put in the recipe. For this particular recipe, I'd recommend checking your banana bread 10-15 minutes before the timer goes off. It probably won't be done yet, but it's nice to see how it's coming along
Another factor when it comes to baking time is what kind of pan you are using. Metal pans tend to bake faster a brown quicker around the edges than a glass pan would. I use a metal bread pan for this recipe so be prepared to have to bake the bread for a bit longer if using a glass pan.

❓ Recipe FAQs
I strongly recommend measuring your bananas. 2 cups of mashed bananas is about 4 bananas worth.
Any kind of neutral-flavored oil works for this recipe including avocado oil or any vegetable oil.
Store fully-cooled banana bread sealed tightly at room temperature for up to 4 days.
I have not tested this recipe with gluten-free flour but let me know if you try it with a good cup-for-cup gluten-free flour blend.

Chocolate Marbled Banana Bread
Equipment
- 9x5-inch loaf pan
- non-stick cooking spray
- mixing bowls
- whisk
- measuring cups & spoons
- silicone spatula
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup neutral-flavored cooking oil
- ¾ cup brown sugar packed
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups mashed ripe bananas (about 4 bananas)
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325℉. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the oil, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, and mashed bananas. Fold in the flour, baking soda, and salt just until incorporated, then fold in the chocolate chips. Do not overmix.
- Transfer about 1 ½ cups of batter to another bowl and fold in the cocoa powder. Fill the prepared pan, alternating with a scoop of regular batter and then a scoop of chocolate batter, and so on to create a marbled effect. Swirl a butter knife through the filled pan to further swirl and marble the batter, being careful not to overmix.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 60-75 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling.
