These flavorful buttery Date Bran Muffins are made with buttermilk, all-bran cereal, butter, molasses, and sweet chopped dried dates!
A good bran muffin that will please young and old alike is usually pretty hard to find. Too dry, too dense, not enough bran, not sweet enough.... just some common problems when it comes to muffins of the bran variety.
I'm happy to tell you that these bran muffins are both super fluffy and nicely moist!! They hold enough fibrous bran goodness and are sweetened nicely with brown sugar and chopped dates! You could, of course, use raisins in place of dates in this recipe, or even add chopped nuts as well!
These muffins contain molasses which gives a deep cozy flavor and color to the muffins. Other yummy recipes that feature molasses include my Banana Gingerbread Muffins and Gingerbread Scones.
🧈 Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make these bran muffins with dates.
Ingredient Notes
- Bran Cereal - I use Original All-Bran Cereal that gets soaked in the buttermilk before incorporating it with the other ingredients.
- Buttermilk - If you don't have any buttermilk on hand in the fridge, you can make DIY buttermilk at home to use in this recipe.
- Butter - I use salted butter in this recipe but you may use unsalted butter with ½ teaspoon of salt added to the recipe.
- Molasses - "Fancy" molasses which is lighter and sweeter is what I use in most of my recipes that call for molasses like my Spicy Ginger Molasses Cookies.
See the recipe card for the full list of ingredients with measurements.
