⭐️ Why You Need to Make This Recipe
- Texture: These rolls have a delightful soft and fluffy texture that you look for in a buttery dinner roll, and the filling rolled up inside makes them extra tender and tasty.
- Flavor: The sweet and buttery caramelized onions go so well together with the flavor of the fresh dill.

🧈 Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make these dill and caramelized onion rolls.

Ingredient Notes
- Yeast: This recipe, like my Monkey Bread Muffins, requires instant yeast, which is also called quick-rise yeast. This type of yeast can be added directly to the recipe without dissolving and proofing in warm water first.
- Milk: Using milk in yeast dough makes for an extra soft and rich textured and flavored dough.
- Flour: Good old simple all-purpose flour is perfect for this recipe!
- Onions: You will need about 2 medium-sized white onions that have been peeled and chopped into small pieces. Let them cook down low and slow for the perfect caramelized onion without burning them.
- Dill: I highly recommend using fresh baby dill for this recipe. Half the measurement of dried or freeze-dried dill would work in a pinch, but the flavor is truly best from fresh dill!

📃 Instructions

Step 1: Whisk together the warm milk, sugar, salt, yeast, and melted butter until incorporated.

Step 2: Add about 2 ½ cups of flour to start and fold in with a spatula until the dough begins to come together.

Step 3: Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, adding the remaining ¼ cup of flour until a smooth and soft dough forms. Place into a floured or oiled bowl.

Step 4: Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5: While the dough is rising, begin cooking the chopped onion with 2 tablespoons of butter, ¼ teaspoon of salt, and pepper. Cover to allow the onions to sweat and cook over medium-low heat, stirring every few minutes until the onions are golden brown.

Step 6: Add the chopped fresh dill, onion powder, and minced fresh garlic, and stir while cooking for 1 minute.

Step 7: Transfer the mixture to a heat-safe bowl and let cool for about 10 minutes before stirring in 2 more tablespoons of softened butter.

Step 8: Once the dough has risen, punch down and roll out into a rectangle about 16"X12". Spread the mostly cooled onion and dill mixture evenly onto the dough.

Step 9: Roll the dough up tightly in a log and slice into 15 rolls using a sharp knife or unfavored dental floss. Arrange in a buttered baking dish.

Step 10: Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes while you preheat the oven to 375℉.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-22 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

💡 Top Tip
These rolls would be yummy for making leftover turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce. It would be admittedly a rather messy sandwich with the design of the roll, but I think the flavor combination would be amazing!
