My go-to morning smoothie, this Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie is delicious tasting and loaded with antioxidant-rich blueberries and cocoa. I love to add spirulina powder and collagen protein powder to this smoothie for an added punch of nutrition to start the day!
Jump to RecipeA few months ago, I saw this spirulina powder in the grocery store and was intrigued. I figured it would do me some good to add more greens to my diet. So, I researched spirulina quite a bit and found that it is a blue-green algae superfood with so many health benefits! A few that stood out to me including; it contains so many nutrients, is rich in antioxidants, and can improve endurance and muscle strength. I had been finding that I was feeling sluggish and tired a lot and was struggling with my daily workout. So, I decided to buy some and try it out. On its own, spirulina tastes and smells like pond scum (I'm not kidding, it is algae after all!), but mixed into a smoothie like this one, you can't even taste it! Yummy and healthy!!
All that said, you definitely do not need to buy spirulina to make this smoothie (I don't even have it written in the recipe); but if you do take this supplement, this smoothie is a wonderful vehicle to put it in.
You can definitely add your favourite protein powder to this smoothie, if desired. My go-to protein powder is unsweetened, unflavoured collagen powder.
