These buttery Almond Scones are reminiscent of an almond croissant with their tender almond interior and a topping of toasty sliced almonds and powdered sugar.

I LOVE a delicious and buttery almond filled croissant from an authentic bakery. There is a boulangerie in the small town I live in that makes the most incredible almond croissants! They also have an extremely tasty cheese and caramelized onion croissant.
While these almond scones are definitely scones, their flavor, richness, and generous dusting of powdered sugar on top really remind me of almond croissants. So, if you have a hankering, these easy and quick homemade scones just might satisfy it!

⭐️ Why You Need to Make This Recipe
- Flavor - The perfectly balanced almond flavor in these scones comes from almond flour and almond extract in the dough and sliced almonds on top that get all toasty while baking.
- Texture - Soft and tender inside with the contrasting crunch of the toasted almonds on top.
- Method - Like my Carrot Cake Scones, this recipe is super quick (under 1 hour!) and easy to make!

🧈 Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make these homemade almond scones.

Featured Ingredient Notes
- Butter - Salted butter is what I use in this recipe, but you could easily swap in unsalted butter, along with ½ teaspoon of salt to make sure the flavors develop properly in the recipe.
- Sugar - You will need granulated white sugar for the dough and powdered sugar for the topping.
- Almonds - 3 forms of almonds go into this recipe: almond flour, almond extract, and sliced almonds. You can make almond flour at home by grinding up blanched almonds in a food processor.
See the recipe card for the full list of ingredients with measurements.
📃 Instructions

Step 1: Whisk together the flour, almond flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add the cold cubes of butter and begin working the butter in with a pastry cutter.

Step 2: Work the butter into the flour mixture until the pieces are well distributed and the size of small peas.

Step 3: Whisk together the whipping cream, egg, vanilla, and almond extract.

Step 4: Add the combined wet ingredients to the flour/butter mixture and mix until the dough begins to come together before turning it out onto the counter to fold and gently knead together to form a dough.

Step 5: Form the dough into 3 disks, each around 4 inches in diameter. Cut each disk into quarters to get 12 scones. Dip the top of each scone into the sliced almonds and press them on top to stick.

Step 6: Press the remaining almonds onto the tops and sides of the scones. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.

Step 7: Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 12-16 minutes or until golden and toasty-smelling.

Step 8: After the scones have cooled for 5 minutes, dust them with a generous amount of powdered sugar.
💡 Top Tip
These almond scones are delicious served while still warm with a cup of tea or coffee! Something about the flaky, soft scones and melt-in-your-mouth powdered sugar makes a wonderful companion to a hot drink.
